St. Marguerite d'Youville Employee Awards

| Print |

In 1995, the St. Marguerite d'Youville awards were established to recognize four employees who consistently support and live the organization's values of compassion, excellence, stewardship, and respect. Nominations for the award are made by anyone in the organization and the list of nominees are reviewed by the Mission Advisory committee, a small, diverse group of employees committed to the mission.

The awards are presented at a special Mass that is held during Mission Week, an event that coincides with the Feast day of St. Marguerite d'Youville.

 Compassion

Marsha works in Human Resources as a Benefits Analyst.  She works directly with each employee when they have to be on leave, assuring them that the organization is there for them when they are at a very vulnerable point.  She even links employees with outside resources related to financial challenges, loss of income, and medical follow up.  People come in worried, concerned and sometimes in tears but they leave calmed, assured and dry-eyed.  Employees describe her as a blessing sent from above;  this kind of care for our distraught employees is what makes us the mission driven organization that we love.

Respect

Lena is a St. Mary's nursing school graduate and has worked here as a nurse since 1979.  She is a nursing supervisor at the hospital and sometimes covers d’Youville Pavilion as well.  She has a great love and deep commitment to St. Mary’s and acts as an ambassador for our institution and an advocate for patients and families.

She demonstrates diplomacy and kindness in stressful situations and is a great mentor for nursing staff.  Lena often works behind the scenes and is not afraid to get her hands dirty to help with projects or patient care.  Lena strives every day to walk in footsteps of St. Marguerite d’Youville.

Stewardship

Theresa has worked at St. Mary’s PACU (Post-Acute Care Unit) since 1990.  Theresa is a conscientious and caring nurse.  She is described by her peers as a role model for a strong work ethic.  Theresa, like the Sisters of Charity whose motto is “let it never be said that we refused to serve”, responds to the needs identified in her department.   She is an incredible steward of human resources, especially when it comes to scheduling.  But it’s the “good use of material resources” that really describes Theresa’s stewardship efforts.  “Waste not, want not” is her mantra in her professional life and personal life.   Theresa’s selflessness reflects St. Marguerite d’Youville’s mission in action.

Excellence

Donna has been with St. Mary’s for 35 years and serves as the Administrative Lab Assistant in Pathology.  Donna comes to work every day with a 'Patient First' focus.  Everything she does has the patient in mind.  Donna's ability to wear multiple hats to ensure a patient first focus in the lab earned her multiple nominations for the Marguerite D'Youville Award for Excellence this year.

Donna’s coworkers describe her as the “glue that holds the lab together.”   She always has a welcoming smile and is willing to lend a hand, even if it is not her job.   She handles all situations with ease.
