General Surgery

General surgery is a broad spectrum of surgical conditions affecting almost any area of the body. A general surgeon will manage conditions related to the head and neck, breast, skin and soft tissues, abdomen, extremities, gastrointestinal, vascular, and endocrine systems.  Many general surgery procedures may now be performed using minimally invasive techniques.  Minimally invasive surgery, also called laparoscopic surgery, is an operative technique performed through a few small incisions, rather than one large incision. Through these small incisions, surgeons insert a laparoscope (an instrument that displays the surgery on a computer screen for easier viewing) and endoscopic instruments to perform the surgery. By this means, diseased organs are examined with minimal trauma to the patient.
