Audiovisual Equipment LoansMedical staff and St. Mary’s employees may reserve our projection equipment for a presentation. 

Items available include:

• laptops
• computer projectors
• TV/VCRs
• TV/DVDs
• video cameras
• flipcharts
• overhead projectors
• slide projectors
• microphones
• conference phone

Remember to allow enough time to pick up the equipment in the Library before your presentation. 
Library staff can provide instruction on using the equipment.
Borrower is responsible to return all equipment to the Library after use. 
Reserve ahead as these items are in demand!

Electronic Databases

PUBMED - the largest medical database in the world, with over 16 million journal citations in all fields of healthcare.  Many items are available as free full-text.  Use Loansome Doc to order articles, or use the My NCBI feature to customize your search for access to available free text.  Passwords are required for Loansome Doc and My NCBI.  This version of PUBMED also shows which journals are held at St. Mary’s Health Sciences Library.

Stat!Ref – wide array of electronic textbooks for instant access all around the institution, or from home or office. Look up symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, drug side effects, billing codes. See Library staff for username and password.

OVID Online Journals – 50 key online journals across all fields of healthcare, dating back to the 1990s. See Library staff for username and password. 

Free Medical Journals Online –a website dedicated to the promotion of free access to journals over the Internet.
 
MARVEL! Databases – Maine’s Virtual Library is a collection of databases featuring full-text professional journals in healthcare, business, science, and current events.  You may create your own password, and use the databases from home or office.  

St. Mary’s Medical Staff and employees should contact the Library for additional password information.

Interlibrary Loan

When our physicians and employees need research help, we’re glad to request materials from other libraries in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.  Most items arrive the same day; in rare cases, it may take 2 days or longer to receive them.  We’ll email articles to your desktop or home.

If you do research regularly, you probably want to sign up for Loansome Doc.

Library Journal List

The Health Sciences Library has roughly 200 professional journal titles in print and electronic format.  These journals span a wide range of health topics.  Journals do not circulate, but a photocopier is available in the Library to copy articles of interest.

Hospital staff and physicians should visit or contact the Library for assistance when you need an article. If we don’t have it here we will get it for you from another library —usually in less than 2 business days.

Loansome Doc

If you often search PUBMED, you can use the Loansome Doc option to request articles directly from the Library. This permits you to send citations of articles to the Health Sciences Library electronically, where we copy them for you or order them from our colleagues at other libraries.  It is easy for you and easy for us.

When you have done a PUBMED search and are scanning through a results list, checking off items of interest, you see a SEND TO button at the top of the page.  Next to it are several dropdown choices.  The choice for ORDER will send you to Loansome Doc.
