Cindy joined St. Mary’s Health System in 2006 as a Human Resource Business Partner. Prior to joining the St. Mary’s team she worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years, in both clinical and management roles. 

Cindy is a graduate of USM/LAC’s Leadership and Organizational Studies program. She is active in the community, volunteering with the Androscoggin United Way Campaign, and Abused Women’s Advocacy Project. She currently is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Maine Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration, the Central Maine Human Resource Association, the Human Resource Association of Southern Maine, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the International Leadership Association.

Medical Director

Dr. Torres is the Medical Director of WorkMed and is Board Certified in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and a certified Medical Review Officer. He graduated from the University if Virginia Medical School and completed Residency training in Occupational Medicine at the University of Massachusetts. He also has a Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology. His eighteen years of occupational medicine experience includes past work for the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon for aircrew members and their families. He consults with a variety of employers, including: LL Bean, Formed Fiber, Pionite and several municipalities. He is currently a Board member on MEMIC's Medical Advisory Board and a Steering Committee Member of the Maine Occupational Research Agenda Committee, Dept of Labor. Dr. Torres acts as the occupational medicine physician for Pionite and is the Occupational Medicine Physician Member of the St. Mary's Health System Safety Committee.

Senior Occupational Medicine Clinician

Gerald Lebel is the Senior Clinician at WorkMed and an Emergency/Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience in clinical, supervisory, educational and administrative occupational health and emergency medicine. Jerry graduated from the University of Maine, Farmington with a BS in Community Health and from St. Mary’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. He completed his Nurse Practitioner training at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pitts burg, Pennsylvania. He has been with WorkMed for over 15 years and provides acute and chronic injury management, consultations and second opinions. He consults with a variety of employers including Elmet and the St. Mary's Health System.


Ellen Farnsworth, NP

Ellen has over 14 years experience as a Nurse Practitioner, most recently for the City of Portland Division of Public Health. Additional work experience includes Employee Health and Wellness at Mercy Health System, Director of the Health and Wellness Center at St. Joseph's College, Nurse Practitioner Director at the Student Health and Wellness Center at Southern Maine Community College and Nurse Practitioner at the University New England Student Health Center. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner Ellen worked in woman's health, ambulatory care, and many other areas of nursing.


Kathy McManus, R.N., C.O.H.N.-S
Occupational Health Nurse

Kathy McManus has specialized as an occupational health nurse for the last 20 years and is a board certified occupational health nurse. Ms. McManus obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Maine. She returned to that school and obtained her Masters in Nursing in 1994. In 1987 she received the annual Scherring Award for outstanding Occupational Health Nurse of the year. For the last 8 years, she has been an adjunct faculty with the Occupational Health Program at Central Maine Technical College where she has taught Basic Principles of Occupational Health , a 3 credit required course which focuses on the effects occupational injury and illness have on the anatomy and physiology of the worker and Ergonomic Principles, also a 3 credit required course. She has presented numerous workshops on ergonomics and other safety and health topics for employers, insurance companies and as a guest speaker for the Maine Safety Conference.
