The Certified Occupational Health Nurse will coordinate the efforts of the health care team with the goal of returning the client to pre-illness or pre-injury function or easing the multiple burdens of chronic and terminal conditions. Additionally, it includes the mobilization of appropriate resources for care over the course of the clients' illness, making sure that quality care is delivered in a cost effective manner. The COHN is in a pivotal role to plan, monitor, and evaluate the care for all employees, especially for high risk and high cost cases with emphasis on early intervention, referral to qualified providers, and communication to the patient and family members to explain the scope and level of required care.
