Renaissance House is a community based

residential home that provides an environment for girls between the ages of 13 to 18 who need a safe, therapeutic, and supervised living placement. The program is goal oriented and focuses on learning about self-responsibility and accountability.

In this long-term program, teenage girls will learn better ways of coping with their emotions and managing their behaviors. They are taught the skills needed to manage their emotions and behaviors, increase independent living skills, and improve relationships. The Renaissance House has a holistic approach to treatment involving the children, the staff, DHHS and their families.

Treatment Goal:

The ultimate goal is to help teenage girls transition back into the community by mastering skills for managing their anger, behaviors, and emotions.

Treatment Philosophy:

The treatment philosophy is based on the Sisters of Charity Health System Mission values: Respect, Excellence, Compassion and Stewardship. At Renaissance House our Mission is to provide comprehensive, compassionate residential treatment to girls with psychiatric, emotional and moderate behavioral difficulties.

Admission Criteria:

Girls between the ages of 13 to 18 with histories of:

  • Affiliation with the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services or the Department of Corrections;
  • Diagnosed psychiatric problems such as: Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Adjustment Disorders, Attention-deficit Hyperactivity Disorder;
  • Behavioral disorders, problems with growth and development, history of failed or insufficient foster home placements, and outpatient treatment efforts;
  • Dysfunction within the home, community or school system;
  • Emotional problems that are interfering with normal psychological development.

Treatment Components:

Renaissance House offers each girl an individualized treatment plan that utilizes both group and individual processes in conjunction with the DBT model. It also has substance abuse treatment program.

The Renaissance House has a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist as the Medical Director, a Service Director, a Clinical Coordinator, a Master Level Social Worker, a Case Manager, and many well-trained Residential Technicians. The Ratio for staff to girls 1:4 – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Treatment Components Include: 
 

  • Evaluation and assessments 
  • Therapeutic milieu through a model behavioral level system
  • Medication management
  • Individual, group, and family therapies
  • Life management skills
  • Social skill groups
  • Recreational/experiential activities

  • Ability to establish honest and trusting relationships
  • Recognition of thinking patterns
  • Understanding right from wrong
  • Ability to manage behaviors
  • Ability to control anger and other emotions
