Evergreen Behavioral Services (EBS) was
formed in 1994 to address a community-identified need for expanded
mental health services in Franklin County and surrounding areas.
The practice is a collaborative effort of Franklin Community Health
Network and the Sisters of Charity Health System (the parent corporation
of St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston). With one full-time
psychiatrist and a staff of mental health and substance abuse counselors,
EBS offers outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs
and an employee assistance program.
Western Mountain Renaissance School
In the fall of 1997, EBS opened the Western Mountains
Renaissance School, an alternative school for students whose behavioral
and learning disabilities have interfered with their receiving education
in conventional classrooms. A collaborative project with eight local
school districts, the Western Mountain Renaissance School offers
a fully accredited educational and therapeutic program intended
to prepare students for their return to public-school classrooms
as quickly as possible. Ten students, referred by the school districts,
can be accommodated at any one time.
