Preventive Care

The SBHC at ELHS offers a variety of services to help students stay healthy. In addition to performing sports screens, we can provide comprehensive physical exams if you don't have a primary care provider (PCP).  We will also refer you to a PCP so you can establish a medical home.

We screen all students for risky behavior and offer counseling to help them reduce their risks.  If any referrals are necessary, we refer students to in-school or community resources.

We participate in the Vaccines for Children program.  This means we get many of the vaccines we offer free, and only charge a nominal fee to cover our costs.  Students can get the following immunizations at The SBHC at ELHS:

  • tetanus/diphtheria (Td)
  • polio (IPV)
  • hepatitis B
  • measles/mumps/rubella (MMR)
  • varicella

Due to the nationwide flu vaccine shortage, we will not be offering flu vaccines at the SBHC this year. Please check out this advice from the CDC for tips on ways to avoid getting sick this cold & flu season.

In addition to the services offered by our staff, we host the Tooth Fairies' dental hygeinists in our Health Center. They see students who don't have access to regular dental care. They provide dental cleanings, sealants and referrals to local dentists if they find any problems. The Tooth Fairies accept MaineCare or charge a modest fee for their services. We also have a Counselor from the Sexual Abuse Crisis Center visit the center every Monday morning from 8 - 10 am to visit with students who request it. The SACC worker is at the Center on a drop in basis. All visits are confidential.
