Brain Attack Team

St. Mary's was the first institution in Maine to establish a formal Brain Attack Team for the thrombolytic treatment of acute ischemic strokes, beginning in 1996.

Cerebrovascular surgery services include the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations, carotid stenosis and hemorrhagic stroke. Treatment of ischemic stroke includes Brain Attack Team intervention and administration of t-PA or intra-arterial urokinase (UK) for patients with particularly severe ischemic strokes.
