The Surgery Department at St. Mary’s includes Pre-Admission Testing, Day Surgery, the Operating Room, and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. We have a dedicated team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, surgical technologists, and aides working together to assure that each patient receives the finest care possible. Our care and treatment is based on the best and most recent advancements in healthcare. We treat all patients, needing surgical intervention from infants to seniors excluding cardiac and trauma surgery. We do over 4,800 procedures per year.
General Surgery
General surgery is a broad spectrum of surgical conditions affecting almost any area of the body. A general surgeon will manage conditions related to the head and neck, breast, skin and soft tissues, abdomen, extremities, gastrointestinal, vascular, and endocrine systems. Many general surgery procedures may now be performed using minimally invasive techniques. Minimally invasive surgery, also called laparoscopic surgery, is an operative technique performed through a few small incisions, rather than one large incision. Through these small incisions, surgeons insert a laparoscope (an instrument that displays the surgery on a computer screen for easier viewing) and endoscopic instruments to perform the surgery. By this means, diseased organs are examined with minimal trauma to the patient.
Genitourinary Surgery
Genito-urinary surgery is for patients with benign or malignant (cancerous) medical and surgical disorders of the adrenal gland and of the genitourinary system. Common urologic procedures include: renal (kidney) surgery, kidney removal (nephrectomy), bladder surgery, pelvic lymph node dissection, prostate surgery, testicular surgery, surgery of the urethra, and electrocorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for stones.
Neurosurgery
The Neurosurgery and Spine Center at St. Mary's provides a coordinated, collaborative approach for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.
Our team of experts, supported by the staff from the departments of neurology, neurosurgery, hematology/oncology, internal medicine, radiology, pulmonology and nursing, work together to provide comprehensive treatment for disorders of the spine, brain tumors, vascular malformations, stroke, and chronic pain.
As a team we are dedicated to providing patients with quality care, from consultation to treatment follow-up, and we are committed to giving physicians the information they need to keep abreast of the field.
Our team approach and the advanced technology at St. Mary's have proven to be of great value in the care of patients with neurological disorders.
