The St. Mary's Center for Hyperbaric and Wound Care offers a multi-disciplinary approach to healing wounds. The special unit at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center is made up of a group of professionals who work as a team to give you comprehensive treatments for wound healing. The doctors are board certified. The nurses have undergone special training in wound care and hyperbarics. They are joined by nutritionists and other well trained staff in the hospital.
The Center for Hyperbaric and Wound Care may be helpful with:
- Chronic wounds
- Traumatic wounds
- Non-healing diabetic wounds
- Pressure ulcers, arterial ulcers
- Burns
- Complex soft tissue wounds and infections
- Gangrene
- Osteomyelitis
- Wounds that do not respond to conventional therapy
The Regional Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center has three of the only seven hyperbaric chambers in Maine. These state-of-the-art chambers deliver 100% oxygen to patients in an environment of increased atmospheric pressure.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been crucial to the following conditions:
- Smoke inhalation and Carbon Monoxide poisoning
- Radiation injury
- Decompression illness (the bends)
- Air or gas embolism
- Diabetic Foot Ulcer
- Osteomyelitis
- Gas Gangrene
- Crush injury
- Compromised skin flaps
- Thermal burns
- Exceptional blood loss anemia
