What
can I expect at an outpatient nutrition visit?
The
first visit lasts 60 minutes. The dietitian assesses your nutrition
status by reviewing your medical history, medications, laboratory
values, weight history and eating habits. Then, you and the dietitian
set goals & create a personalized nutrition plan that suits
your schedule.
Follow-up visits last 30 minutes.
Will my insurance pay for the visit?
Insurance coverage varies. Call the customer service number on your
insurance card with coverage questions. Medicare Part B covers diabetes
and non-dialysis kidney disease. Self-pay is also accepted.
How do I make an appointment?
You need a referral from your doctor. The doctor’s office
will call St. Mary’s central scheduling department to set
up your first appointment.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Bring a 3-day food record & your appointment calendar to your
first visit. The food record needs to list time of day, food or
beverage item & amount consumed.
