Community Health Risk Screening

At a time of increasing medical costs, keeping a watchful eye over our health is becoming more and more important. St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center's TAKE CHARGE! Community Health Risk Screening Program helps identify health risks and promote healthy lifestyles for individuals and businesses in Southern Maine.  Since the program's inception in 2002, Take Charge! has screened over 6,000 people!

Androscoggin County has an unusually high rate of residents who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease.  The Maine Bureau of Health statistics clearly illustrate the need for a comprehensive health screening program in the Lewiston/Auburn region:

  • Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death, disability and healthcare costs
  • 24% of adults smoke
  • 22% of adults have been told their blood pressure is high
  • 31% of adults have not had their cholesterol checked within the last 5 years
  • 55% of adults are inactive and/or irregularly exercise
  • 53% of adults are overweight

TAKE CHARGE! provides an avenue for anyone concerned about health risk factors to receive an individually tailored health profile and a personal plan of action to prevent chronic health problems.
