Take Charge!
offers a variety of screening programs to meet individual and business
needs. Each screening provides an opportunity to learn more
about individual health and what can be done to improve it.
Take Charge! is a quick and easy and has the advantage of immediate
referrals to appropriate medical providers.
Why
have a health screening?
The best way to stay healthy is to understand
those factors that affect health and identify risks early. TAKE
CHARGE! offers individuals and businesses these services in one,
easy-to-use service at a very low cost.
How
much effort does it take?
The actual time involved from start to finish
ranges from 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of screening
profiles chosen. Take Charge! involves answering a few health
history questions, providing a blood sample and a few simple measurements.
At
the end a health educator will discuss your results with you.
Community/Mini-Screens
include:
- Total cholesterol and high density lipoproteins
(HDL)
- Blood Pressure
- Body Mass Index
- Smoking Status
Comprehensive
Take Charge! (offered through employers) can include:
- Complete lipid profile (cholesterol)
- Glucose measurement (diabetes)
- Pulmonary function measurement (lungs)
- Blood pressure
- Sleep habits
- Body mass index
- Smoking impact
- Physical activity level
How
will the Take Charge! information be reported?
Individuals receive a written report at the end
of the screening and a one-on-one information session with a health
educator. With the individual's permission a copy of the report
will be provided to their doctor. If an individual does not have
a doctor, St. Mary's will help you find one and set up an appointment
as part of the visit. Employers will get an aggregate report
(no individual information will be provided) that can help them
plan health promotion initiatives to reduce health risks among their
employees.
