Heart Attack - A heart attack or an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a life threatening event that occurs when the heart doesn't receive enough oxygen. Interventions like the quick use of aspirin are known to improve the changes of survival. There are also interventions that are known to reduce future risk of a heart attack. Heart Failure - Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, is a long-term condition caused by the heart's inability to pump as much blood as the body needs. Heart failure is one of the most common reasons for hospitalization. These indicators show how well we manage the care of heart failure patients who are hospitalized at St.  Mary's. Pneumonia - Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. These indicators apply to 'community acquired' pneumonia or pneumonia that started prior to hospital admission. The Influenza Vaccine (Flu Vaccine) is routinely administered from September through February of each year to correspond with the flue season in Maine.

Infection Control - Infection Control activities are those activities that are performed to reduce the risk of infections to our patients, visitors and employees.

Surgical Infection Prevention - Hospitals can reduce the risk of wound infection after surgery by providing the right medicines at the right time on the day of surgery. These quality measures show some of the standards of care provided to patients having surgery. Patient Satisfaction - We care about what our patients think so we measure patient satisfaction. We are proud of our results as we are at or above the state and national average in our overall patient satisfaction average scores, and we welcome patient feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.
