Approximately 200 adult and junior volunteers comprise the volunteer staff at St. Mary's Health System. All our volunteers have a desire to help others, a professional attitude, and a willingness to learn new things. The Volunteer Services Department recruits and coordinates all activities and projects through its Volunteer Program, offering flexible scheduling and a variety of opportunities.

Junior Volunteer Program

This is structured as a summer program primarily, although trained junior volunteers may choose to continue their volunteer work in the after-school program as well. New junior volunteer applications are accepted January 1 through May 1 every year. Interviews are held in May, and orientations and training starts in June. This program fills up quickly.

In response to our current pandemic, St. Mary’s 2020 Summer Junior Volunteer program has been altered.  This summer we will only permit youth who:

  • Have already volunteered in the Junior Volunteer program at least one previous summer
  • Are at least 14 years old
  • Have experience navigating the hospital

This decision was not made lightly; the safety of our volunteers and patients is our primary concern.  We appreciate your understanding and look forward to resuming our regular program next summer when we can once again welcome new junior volunteers.
