The Child and Adolescent psychiatric unit serves up to 20 patients between the ages of 5 and 18. Patients are admitted to the inpatient units when they require a safe setting and are not appropriate for less restrictive alternatives. We provide short-term crisis stabilization for youth with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses including depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and psychotic disorders. Our average length of stay is 10 days. We have convenient access to all of the hospital services necessary to provide high-quality and holistic care.
We provide structured treatment with a daily schedule of groups, school, and individual sessions. We were one of the first inpatient units to utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) with teens. DBT focuses on building portable, practical life skills and has been very successful. Adolescents work their way up a 4-step level system by utilizing the skills they've learned. With the children we use 1,2, 3, Magic and Caught You Being Good to modify behavior and we encourage parents to continue these after discharge.
The treatment team includes: Psychiatrists, registered nurses, clinicians (social workers and counselors), teachers, recreation therapists, behavioral technicians, and pastoral care.
Referrals to the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit can be initiated by calling our Intake Office at 777-8700. The Intake Office is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
